Strecno castle

The Gothic castle of Strecno castle is found in the northern part of Slovakia as it is distanced by about 7 kilometers from Zilina. This majestic castle fortress stand atop the rock found over the river Vah. The first mention of this castle dates back to 1384 found in the phrase ‘Comitatus castri Strechyn’. Believed to have existed from the fourteenth century, Strecno castle was a Royal castle in the past.

Believed to have existed from the fourteenth century, Strecno castle was a Royal castle in the past.

The castle had undergone several alterations since its inception and at present, the Strecno castle is the property belonging to Zilina Self-Governing Region as it falls under the administration of Museum of Povazie. This Strecno castle is also associated with that of the personal story belonging to Zofla Bosniakova, which is the story that revolves around her love for that of her husband, poor and God.

Her body had become an object of preservation in an almost mummified state found at the castle chapel.

The Strecno castle has become an indispensable portion pertaining to the landscape scenery belonging to the Mala Fatra Mountains. The path found above this castle and the castle rock offer splendid views of the beautiful Streciansky Priesmyk Mountain pass as visitors can also drink down the spectacular sights of the greater part belonging to the Zilinska Kotlina basin. A tour of the castle will let the visitor on to the site pertaining to Zofia’s poorhouse as the chapel also becomes a part of the tour of this castle.
