The small town of Moldava nad Bodvou (Hungarian: Szepsi) is located in the southeastern part of Slovakia, about 25 km southwest of Košice.

The town’s Roman-Catholic church was built during the 15th century, in the Gothic style, on the site – according to sources – of a former 13th century church.

It acquired its current appearance as a result of the baroque reconstruction in the 18th century. Its original protective wall is still standing.

The marble columns marking the 13 stations of the “Via Lucis” can be seen in the garden of the church; these were carved by master mason János Luckács, and painted by Ottó Szabó.
