How to get to Bratislava - Slovakia

The location in the "heart of Europe" makes Slovakia
a very easily accessible country. And Bratislava, the international
highway, railway and airway junction is the gate to Slovakia.
The the main international airport of Slovakia is the
M.R. Stefanik Airport (code BTS), located just a mere 15-minute
drive from the city centre.

There are about dozen airlines serving Bratislava airport including
several low-cost carriers:

- Europe’s largest low-cost airline offers flights to/from Birmingham,
Bristol, Brussesl, Dublin, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, London, Paris,
Pisa, Rome, Stockholm, Milan, Barcelona, etc.

WINGS - connect Bratislava with two other slovak airports
- Kosice and Poprad-Tatry, as well as with Brussels, Bologna,
Basel, Manchester
- WIZZAIR
- for now the hungarian low-cost carrier offers one flight from
Bratislava to Rome.
There are also traditional carriers connecting Bratislava with

Many visitors of Slovakia use the nearby Vienna
International Airport (VIE) at Schwechat in Austria, situated
just a mere 1 one our drive from Bratislava. This huge international
airport serving some 15 million passengers a year is used by all
the major international carriers. About eight buses ride from

BY TRAIN
Bratislava is an important railway junction. The main train station
– Hlavna Stanica – is about a 10-15 min. walk from the
city centre. It is possible to get here by train from many countries.
Efficient train service connects Bratislava with Prague, Vienna
and Budapest. From Prague, trains leave either from the main station
Hlavni Nadrazi or from Holesovice station. The trip takes 5-6
hours.
Some trains from Vienna arrive to the Petrzalka train station
which is across the river south from the Old Town.
International tickets can be purchased at the international ticket
office – Medzinarodna pokladna. It is recommended to buy these
tickets at least a day in advance as they can sell out.

BY BUS
Bratislava is also very easily accessible by bus. The city’s
main bus terminal – Autobusova Stanica at Mlynske Nivy
– is located only 2 km from the Old Town. International tickets
can be bought at the international ticket office – zahranicna
pokladna – or with Eurolines,
which connects Bratislava with about 21 European cities. Their
office is located on the ground floor of the bus station.
BY BOAT
Hydrofoils travel between Vienna – Bratislava – Budapest
from May to September. Tickets can be purchased at the dock on
Vajanskeho nabrezie, for reservations contact Slovenska
Plavba Dunajska.
In this year’s tourist season the Twin
City Liner - a high-speed boat will be connecting Bratislava
and Vienna. This direct scheduled link between Schwedenplatz/Marienbrucke
in Vienna and Bratislava Propellerhaus will be available three
times a day between June and October. The journey will take 75
minutes.
BY CAR
From Prague to Bratislava there are good freeways via
Brno – D1 and D2. The distance is about 315 km (195 miles) and
it takes about 3-4 hours.
From Budapest take Route 10 to Komarno and Route 63 from
Komarno to Bratislava. This journey takes about 2 – 3 hours. |
